SAILCARGO INC. is in Business with First Voyages Full

[Punta Morales, Costa Rica] --- The Trade and Logistics Department of SAILCARGO INC. has successfully completed its first Cargo Campaign. With a long list of companies interested in shipping with SAILCARGO INC., the cargo hold of CEIBA is nearly full on the northbound section of the PAX Line. This has been a collaboration with their partner Mar & Comercio, a Costa Rican blue economy consulting company.

“To better understand the trade context on the routes that Ceiba will be sailing, we have been researching the markets of at least 11 countries (to start with), with a special focus on Costa Rica, as her homeport. In this climate crisis, pandemic and post COVID-19 panorama, establishing consequent frameworks for emission free fair trade is crucial.”, says Marilyn Valverde, founder of Mar & Comercio and manager of SAILCARGO’s Trade and Logistics Division.

While there is abundant demand for Costa Rican eco friendly products such as coffee and chocolate in northern America, it has been more of a challenge finding demand for American and Canadian specialty products in the Costa Rican market. Although there has been interest, the team is seeking additional Letters of Intent to support making a case for carbon negative marine freight on Southbound voyages.

“We have been reaching out to Costa Rican businesses to introduce the culture of sailing goods and we are optimistic in the pursuit of providing clean transport to products where traceability is an added value, cherished by the customer, and that naturally benefits our cargo partners” continues Marilyn Valverde.

CEIBA will be operational in 2022, and with the increasing interest of emission free shipping she is poised to be the largest ship of her kind sailing in the Pacific Americas. CEIBA will transport 250 metric tons of goods per journey. This is equivalent to nine 20 ft. shipping containers (TEU).

As Costa Rica's flagship, SAILCARGO INC. demonstrates that a carbon neutral shipping company can not only be financially competitive, but can inspire global change and bring awareness to an often overlooked industry. The company is funded by private investors who support sustainable businesses and a rethinking of how international trade can evolve.
